Module SIX – Chapter 9 – DECORATIVE PAPERS

On looking back at my pictures and colour samples I have prepared a set of  mostly blue and some green papers plus some others in orange hues as a complementary colour.

These first sheets are produced by simply brushing and sponging on and off very watery acrylics and letting them run freely, making pools of colours, adding some salt in areas and in others drying them off with kitchen paper.

This second group is a bit more complex, textures are created with tissue paper and masking tape (centre left). Variations of colours are obtained with crumpled plastic wrap and synthetic and natural sponges, and by using combs, barbecue sticks, plastic forks, teeth brushes and other implements to apply colours.

The same treatments have been replicated in warm orange shades.

I chose some black paper designs from last Chapter and reproduced them in two or three colours. For this first exercise I was rather faithful to my original designs, only in some cases I have modified them by changing elements or proportions. All colour samples measure approximately 12 square centimetres.

  1. I love, the colour pallet you've used in this set of samples, and the textures are great, they remind me of the sea and sand. I liked your responses to your black paper samples too.

  2. What a lovely set of samples. I especially like Sample 3, but then 8 and 11 are interesting too and then there are the 3D samples. Are you bringing any work to Farncombe?

  3. Your colored papers work really well.I like number three the best but thirteen and eighteen offer some interesting possibilities.
